Wedding Gown Trends
Walk into any bridal shop and you’ll quickly discover—the choices are endless! To help you narrow your focus, we asked Jessica Boardman, of Celebration Bridal in Lynchburg, to tell us which styles are most popular right now.
Lace has been on-trend for a few seasons and it doesn’t look like this vintage-inspired style is going anywhere anytime soon. But there are a few modern updates Jessica has been noticing, including “bold” lace and 3D lace.
A-line and Column-Style Silhouettes
These two wedding dress styles pull double duty—both give off a polished, elegant look but they allow brides the wiggle room they need to celebrate.
“Brides want to have fun and these two styles are the best for fun!” says Jessica.
Wedding dress designers are pulling out all the stops to add a few elements of surprise to their finished products. According to Jessica, brides are loving gowns with cool features such as pearl accents, removable capes, Ombre fabrics, high slits, and (saving the best feature for last, of course) pockets! Brides finally have a place to store their lipstick for touch-ups and tissues to keep those happy tears under control.
Clean Fabrics and Lines
When all else fails and you can’t seem to figure out which direction you want to go before trying on your first dress, start with simple. Try on a gown that focuses on the classic, less-is-more approach.
“Think Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly,” says Jessica. “Satin fabrics and mikado-style dresses are having a moment right now.”
For those unfamiliar with the term, a mikado dress is typically cinched in the waist with an exaggerated, pleated A-line silhouette.
